Step into the mind of the creative director for Knull and Void

Sneak Peak

Yet another Knull and Void sneak peak….

Knull + Void Gold Saber flat Collar Tips.

The version pictured are old trial versions I hammered and cut from sheet metal as a proof of concept trial. The new ones are a bit more intricate and made of precious metals (silver & gold). They will come in a number of styles these pictured are the sabers (remind you of sword tips).

Wanted to get this sneak peak out though because i’m seeing a surge in men’s collar tips and dont want to come out as having been inspired by *insert name*. But these new ones will definitely be in a lane of their own.

But a lot of my pieces you will see are built around the wearer being able to add it to super affordable or common place items and being able to change them to look expensive with the addition of a Knull and Void accessory.

Thats always been the reason why the bulk of my money in my closet goes to accessory items. I will buy designer accessories they can be worn every day of the week unlike a designer shirt/pant, that i’d maybe wear once a month or every other month.

Style Badass

Philip Cragi has a rustic simplicity about himself his style. He effortlessly come across sure about who he is and that to me is one of the biggest qualities towards being a Style Badass.

cragi

When I first came across Cragi, I immediately said thats the “Knull & Void Man” thats the type of style my guy has, needless to say I learned soon after that Cragi will probably never wear one of my pieces because he himself is a Jewelry designer. Not just any either, he is the CFDA Swarovski Award for Accessory Design, an award I hope to one day go after.

Since learning this info, ive studied not only Cragi’s style but his mind and career. Im finding that a lot of us that have attended Art school have similar ways of thinking and attacking creative en devours. Cragi is an inspiration to me on many levels, a man with a great creative eye, and one of Knull and Void’s Style Badasses…

Blast from the past

Years ago I was apart of a Men’s online lifestyle magazine as creative director. The revamp never quite got off the ground for financial reasons and the group split up unfortunately (was a great group of talented men). But I recently happened to run across the teaser trailer I made and figured i’d post it:

Sneak Peak

Another Knull and Void Sneak Peak…

Here is a full view of the sketch I did for the leather Knull and Void men’s leather tote with palladium and burnished cherry wood accents:

I have placed the bags aside to focus on the jewelry portion for now however.

look a post over… can’t you see Nick Wooster sporting it? You here that Woo? Grab a few lol.

Style Badass

If you keep up with streetstyle blogs chances are you’ve ran across Nicholas Wooster before. Nick is the Men’s Fashion Director of Neiman Marcus Group Services which includes both Neiman Marcus & Bergdorf Goodman.

Michael Bastin Camo blazer & tie paired with a pop of red handkerchief and a blue chambray button down w/ aviators. BRAVO!

His rough rugged and weathered dexterity, tatted physic paired with the crip tailored blazers, button downs, and fun unexpected color choices makes Mr.Wooster a style icon to many (myself included). Wooster has a nack for taking classic men’s tailoring and pairing unexpected prints and colors.

Odds are you’ve seen a picture of Nick Wooster on the internet. Dude is a mainstay of the streetstyle blogs and it’s not hard to see why. Wooster, the Men’s Fashion Director of Neiman Marcus Group Services (Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman), is pretty much the definition of a sartorial badass. I see him as a more accessible version of Philip Crangi in that Wooster, while exhibiting the same level of flat out ruggedness, adds tailored pieces and does away with some of Cragi’s sartorial frivolity to keep his looks actually wearable. I would surmise that Wooster’s diverse look is very much grounded in his equally diverse professional pedigree. Stints at John Bartlett, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein seem to have shaped Wooster’s rugged, yet tailored aesthetic. Overall, he serves as a deadly serious example of a dude finding his style sweet spot, straight up killing it on the reg and getting yo’ beard game tight.

Yall know I love a good pop color….

love the sleeve tats, they make for a great juxtaposition to his tailored attire

You think he is going to give you a normal suit… THEN BLAM!!

Closet Freak

Got a new edition, i’ll be highlighting collection that give me what I want and need in what I call “Closet Freak”, one day they will ALL hopefully be in my closet lol! Pending the designers actually make them in my size… i’m looking to YOU Tisci >:-( Today we introduce to some and reconnect with others the designer Ozwald Boateng, and his Spring / Summer 2012 collection Boatengs collection Safari is inspired by a Safari trip that the designer and his family took in Kenya:

Ozwald has an attention to color that I think is widely overlooked in menswear (among other things). His ability to palette together colors that break the common place muted hues that we are all so often are given in collection after collection is refreshing.
Give us a color pallette Boateng!
I love what he does with classics, he takes them and subtly alters it to bring it a modern edge. Such as the double layered lapel, a classic silhouette presented in a modern textile it all makes the clothes relevant to today’s man.
Ozwald Boateng our first ‘Closet Freak’… these definitely need to be in my closet!

Visual Fetish

While seeking inspirations for my accessories line I was drawn back to a movie I had seen years ago where I was absolutely captivated by the costume work. I saw Gangs of NY during a time where I had absolutely no interest in the city of NY (although my mother instinctively told me time and again I will end up living in New York… that I AM a New Yorker), I barely had an interest in what the story was about, and for all intents and purpose never really cared. I however was drawn visually to everything going on in the movie the clothing being a huge captivator of my attention.

Gangs of NY takes place during a time when accessorized men were the norm. Too much was never enough, and men’s style was seen from the upper echelon to the most feeble of men. Spats, windowpane pants, stovepipe hats, tufted ascots, corked pipes just for the look, satchels, pocket watches, all almost required finishes to any outfit.
I am highly inspired by this movie be on the look out when the first collection drops and see if you can pick up on pieces inspired by the movie & era. Big hint is I love the fact that pieces we now consider to be “formal” they were able to make casual and apart of daily wear… #bighint

The Persuit of Cool

Earlier I posted the video about influencers and what makes an influencer. The same guys that did that video have set to inspire again with their persuit of cool videos. An open dialog with tastemakers on what they view defines the word and stories behind that.

From the inception of having peers in our lives it seems we’ve had that constant battle of wanting to be the cool one, observing what around us is cool, and seeking out those that fit that description to surround ourselves with, idolize, or hate upon. Here is a trailer of whats to come from R + I Creative:

Knull + Void Man

While creating my business plan i’ve had to consider who exactly my client is, who exactly is the Knull + Void Man?? Beyond the logistics of who will be buyers of my line, as a visual person I felt the need to see my K+V man so I took being inspired and collecting visuals that embodied to me a self confident man, knowing what they want, living on the edge, owning the space around them, and gets dressed to please themselves and no one else.

Style for Miles

So people are often interested in my personal style and tastes so I figured i’d throw a section in for it. This one is dedicated to the insp for my spring/summer look. From childhood on i’ve always been inspired in many realms by the Black Panther movement. More than anything by their fashion statements that gave them a tough as nails yet modernly conscience branding. So I decided I want to draw from the Black Panthers and modernize it for spring/summer. So lets go ahead and break down the Black Panther look:

Alright now that we know whats signature to the party lets throw together a few Spring Panther looks:

I

actually have majority of this look in the closet. I decided a few months ago after frustration of not finding any mens leather shorts that i’d make my own. So bought a few vintage pairs that I premiered during this past fashion week and they received rave reviews. But this look has the signature panther pieces and throws in a pop color to modernize it. The look is rather affordable but of course my believe is accessories should be the expense place of your look (you can wear the same ones everyday of the week so I believe in investing in good ones as they can change any look from cheap to chic). ***side note did I really spell Tailor as Taylor (thats what happens from working at MTV), I forgot the glasses & shoes so look will be altered…i’m human!!!*** I will be making a few more Spring Panther looks and dropping them here so check back from time to time.
